'No Sleep For 45 Days': Bajaj Employee Takes His Life, Cites Intense Work Stress In Suicide Note

Bajaj Finance Employee Suicide: A 42-year-old man named Tarun Saxena who worked as an area manager with Bajaj Finance has died by suicide in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. He claimed, in his suicide note, that he had been pressurized for the last two months by his supervisors to get his targets and told that his salary would be reduced if he did not. Bajaj Finance remains silent over the allegations.

The house help found him dead this morning. He had locked his wife and two children in another room. His parents, wife Megha, and children Yatharth and Pihu survive him.

Bajaj Employee Reveals About Excessive Work Pressure In Suicide Note

In a five-page letter to his wife, Tarun wrote that he was under tremendous pressure as he was not able to achieve his targets despite high efforts. His job entailed collecting EMIs on Bajaj Finance loans in his area, and he was short of his target on account of a variety of problems. However, he added that he was also afraid of losing his job and that his supervisors often humiliated him. He wrote: “I am very worried for the future. I have lost my thinking ability. I am leaving.”

Tarun said that he and his subordinates were forced to buy off the EMIs they could not recover in their locality. He wrote, “I have often brought these recovery issues to the notice of my seniors, but none of them seems to care”. He said, “I haven’t slept for 45 days. I’ve hardly eaten. I am under immense stress. My senior managers are threatening to replace me if I don’t meet targets come what may.”

Gaurav Saxena, a resident of the same colony, is Tarun’s cousin. He said pressure to raise recoveries had mounted against Tarun. He said Tarun’s supervisors had even exerted mental pressure on him in a video conference held at 6 AM today, saying that he cannot perform and that he should be dismissed. Gaurav recalled that Tarun had actually named them in his suicide note.

Police Investigate Tarun Saxena’s Suicide Note, Considering Family’s Complaint

Senior police officer Vinod Kumar Gautam said they were looking into the post-mortem report. He mentioned that based on the suicide note, Tarun’s seniors used to pressurize him over meeting the target. If his family files a complaint too, they would take action on it, he added.

Toxification of workplace culture is at the center of a national debate following Tarun Saxena’s suicide and a letter blaming his senior managers days after a 26-year-old chartered accountant, Anna Sebastian Perayil, hung herself in a Kochi apartment.
