Travelers heading to Bihar for Chhath Puja now have to depend exclusively on special trains. Tickets for all trains running from the day after Diwali to Chhath are already sold out. In many cases, even waiting list tickets are unavailable. On Monday, bookings for November 5, the start of Chhath Puja, opened but were fully booked by morning.

Each year, the number of passengers traveling to Bihar by train increases significantly during Diwali and Chhath Puja, particularly those going to Patna, Darbhanga, and Bhagalpur. As in previous years, this year too, passengers quickly booked tickets for all trains as soon as bookings opened for Diwali and Chhath. Consequently, no seats are available in any class from sleeper to first AC between November 1 to 5.

Railway sources indicated that passengers currently have the option to book tickets 120 days in advance. This has resulted in most trains to Bihar being fully booked for Diwali and Chhath. Sources mentioned that a plan for special trains will be devised soon, considering the heavy rush of passengers. Based on last year’s demand, decisions will be made regarding the number of trains and their routes. These will include both reserved and unreserved trains.
