Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court in its latest verdict on the promotion of government employees has ordered an interim stay for those with more than two children. The Rajasthan govt. earlier had this policy where the promotion of govt employees having more than two children was impacted.
However, in 2023 ahead of the assembly elections, the then govt rolled back its policy and measures were taken to lift this barricade hindering the promotion of employees on the basis of the number of children they have.
Policy comes into act
Now, in the latest development on the matter, the bench of Justice Pankaj Bhandari and Justice Vinod Kumar Bharwani of the Rajasthan High Court have ordered an interim stay over the policy. As per the new ruling, promotions of employees with more than two wards shall remain impacted.
Two-child policy: SC ruling
Hon’ble Supreme Court on its verdict over the ‘two-child policy’ challenged by a petition in February 2024, had stated that the policy of no government jobs for parents of two plus children is no bias and this policy was enacted to promote family planning in India. The apex court in its order also mentioned that the rules make the father of more than two kids ineligible for such jobs. Notably, India, geographically the seventh-largest country now stands as the most populous country in the world surpassing China.

Maharashtra on child policy
Maharashtra has a similar policy for the state govt employees wherein if the govt. employee having more than two wards dies, none of his family members or children will be taken as next to the kin and no job will be provided to any member of the family on the basis of compassionate appointment. For unversed, compassionate appointments are made in cases when a govt employee dies before completing his tenure. The wife or a child is given an opportunity to pursue a govt job and start afresh.
