According to the sources, passengers will be able to travel with confirmed tickets by 2027. In addition to this, number of trains will also be increased to 13000 from 10748 which would be running on daily basis. The whole idea is to increase the number of passengers to 1000 crore compared to 800 crore travelling currently every year.
The big expansion plan came just after a 40-year-old man died while boarding a Bihar-bound train for Chhath.
Passengers travelling without confirmed tickets in trains, huge crowd in the railway stations is quite a common scenario. However, this creates a lot of menace for the fellow passengers who travel with valid reservations and to combat this situation, Indian Railways are planning for big expansion.
The Railways is also working to cut down the travel time – which includes laying down more tracks, increase the speed and to increase the speed, it is necessary to increase the acceleration and deceleration so that the train takes less time to stop and gain speed.
A study by the Railways says at least two hour and twenty minutes can be saved in traveling from Delhi to Kolkata if they increase acceleration and deceleration with the help of the push and pull technique.
