‘No home blanket or food’: How Azam Khan spent his first two nights in UP’s Rampur jail after being found guilty in 7 of 12 Cases

Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and his son, Abdullah Azam, were sentenced to seven years of imprisonment in a dual PAN Card case on Monday. Azam Khan's first two nights in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur District Jail were restless. He kept tossing and turning the whole night, as reported by Bhaskar.

"No Home Blanket Or Food"

Khan was denied a blanket and home-cooked food, brought by his family members. The jail administration did not let it in. Meanwhile, his son's condition at Rampur Jail Barrack No. 1 was even similar. Both have been kept together considering Azam Khan's age and health condition.

Azam Khan Demands To Be Sent To A Better Jail

Bhaskar reported that the duo had arguments with jail administration and staff over the facilities. They demanded to be sent to a better jail, but their request was ignored. The items were blocked inside the jail for security reasons. Until the next court order, the resources available in the prison are the only options that remain for the SP leader and his son.

"Rules Are The Same For Everyone" - Jail Superintendent

"Rules are the same for everyone, age was taken into consideration Jail Superintendent Rajesh Yadav said - Jail manual has been followed. Outside items and extra facilities are not permitted. Rules are the same for everyone. No matter who it is. However, considering his age, Azam has been given an extra foam mattress," Bhaskar quoted Jail Superintendent as saying.

What Did The Accused Duo Eat In Jail?

While going to jail, Azam was seen wearing black spectacles, carrying two packets of biscuits. Azam told ANI, "They thought I was a convict, so I was sentenced to jail..." Refused home food, both the accused reportedly had to eat jail rotis, lentil dal, and potato-spinach curry. Their condition is said to be normal.

About The Case

The MP-MLA special court sentenced both of them to seven years of imprisonment on Monday at 3 pm for obtaining PAN cards using forged documents. They were sent to the Rampur district jail at 4.10 pm. This verdict of the court is one of the 104 cases registered against Azam Khan. Verdicts are out in 11 cases, and he was sentenced in 6 out of these. He has been acquitted in 5 remaining cases.
