No Hindu Names For Muslim Shops: Controversial Statement By UP Minister Before Kanwar Yatra

Preparations for the Kanwar Yatra in the month of Sawan are in full swing. The Uttar Pradesh government and administration are actively involved in organizing the yatra. Ahead of the event, Uttar Pradesh minister Kapil Dev Agarwal met with Kanwar camp operators in Muzaffarnagar. Following the meeting, Agarwal stated that Muslim shopkeepers at the Kanwar fair should refrain from operating their shops under Hindu deity names.

Kapil Dev Agarwal stated that in the Kanwar fair, Muslim shopkeepers should not name their shops after Hindu deities. He emphasized that while they are welcome to operate their shops, transparency is necessary to avoid controversies. Agarwal highlighted concerns that Kanwariyas, who visit and consume tea and water there, might misunderstand the names leading to disputes later. Therefore, clarity is essential from the outset to prevent any future issues.

A few days ago, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar met with officials to discuss security arrangements for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra and Muharram. He provided various guidelines and emphasized creating a security plan for the procession routes using digital volunteers and civil defense.

The DGP instructed that no new traditions should be allowed and the Kanwar Yatra routes should be inspected in advance. He also ordered additional police forces to be deployed in areas with mixed populations and hotspots. The DGP emphasized that a strict watch should be kept on troublemakers and more police should be stationed at sensitive locations.
