Days after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a big win in the 2025 Bihar assembly elections, the state is now preparing for a new government that will take charge on Thursday, November 20, soon after the current government ends on November 19.
BJP leader and state minister Prem Kumar said, “The oath-taking ceremony for the new government will be held on November 20 at Gandhi Maidan. The present government will end on the 19th. Prime Minister Modi and lakhs of people are expected to attend this historic event.”

Focus Shifts to Deputy Chief Minister Posts
The biggest political curiosity right now is about who will be the Deputy Chief Ministers in the new government. With the NDA achieving a big victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the party wants to send out a strong political message through its choices.
Along with current Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, two more names have emerged strongly this time:
- Chirag Paswan, LJP (Ram Vilas) national president
- Ramkripal Yadav, former Union Minister of State
Sources say the BJP is also considering a plan to not continue Vijay Kumar Sinha as Deputy CM this time. The party wants a fresh mix of faces from different communities.
From the BJP’s forward group, three leaders are being discussed for the post:
- Rajneesh Kumar
- Mangal Pandey
- Nitin Nabin
Rajneesh Kumar, the newly elected MLA from Teghra in Begusarai, is considered close to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Chirag Paswan’s Strong Claim After LJP(RV)’s Best Show
The NDA won 202 seats in the 2025 election JD(U) 85, BJP 89, and LJP(RV) 19. For Chirag Paswan, this is a major milestone as his party jumped from 1 seat in 2020 to 19 seats this year. His rising popularity and his party’s strong performance make him a serious contender for one of the Deputy CM posts.
If Nitish Kumar remains CM, giving one Deputy CM post to LJP(RV) is being seen as a politically smart move.
Samrat Choudhary May Continue as Deputy CM
Samrat Choudhary remains one of the strongest contenders. Home Minister Amit Shah had openly endorsed him in an election rally on 30 October, saying, “Help Samrat ji win, Modi ji will make him a big leader.”
Choudhary won Tarapur by a huge margin of 1.22 lakh votes, defeating RJD’s Arun Kumar Sah by 45,820 votes. His electoral strength and organisational role keep him firmly in the race.
Ramkripal Yadav
Another key name is Ramkripal Yadav. As a prominent Yadav face within the BJP, he fits into the party’s strategy to attract OBC and Yadav voters especially after the RJD’s defeat.
Ramkripal met Nitish Kumar this evening at the Chief Minister’s residence. When asked about the possibility of becoming Deputy Chief Minister, he said he was ready to take on any responsibility given by the leadership.
Final Decision Expected Soon
With multiple strong contenders Samrat Choudhary, Chirag Paswan, Ramkripal Yadav, and names from the BJP’s forward quota the competition for the Deputy CM posts is intense.
