Violence and protests continue to wreak havoc in a conflict-hit Manipur resulting in the death of one individual and injury of another on Sunday. Tension escalated in the state’s valley areas after security forces reportedly opened fire in Jiribam district killing a 20-year-old man to disperse the crowd. The incident reportedly occurred around 11 pm at Babupara.
National Investigation Agency has taken over three cases linked to the violence leading to the loss of lives and disruption in public order in Manipur. The agency took over these cases from Manipur Police following a recent order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The first case happened on November 8, 2024, when a woman was murdered by heavily armed militants at the Jiribam Police Station in the region of Jiribam.
The second one was lodged at Borobekra Police Station on November 11, 2024, linked to the attack on the CRPF at (A-company, 20th Battalion) located at Jakuradhor Karong and Borobekra Police Station, Jiribam by armed militants.
The third case was also reported at Borobekra Police Station, on November 11 2024 regarding the burning of houses and killing of civilians at the Borobekra area.

The latest move comes after the state government imposed a curfew in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Bishnupur districts from 4:30 pm following intensified violence. Internet and mobile data services were also suspended in several districts including Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, and Churachandpur.
