Shrinagar: National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday arrested Md Ubaid Mallik, an alleged Jaish-e-Mohammad operative, in Kupawara district.
According to NIA, he has been in several terror conspiracy cases in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Jaish-e-Mohammad operative Mohd Ubaid Malik was in constant touch with a Pakistan-based JeM commander. Investigations revealed that the accused was passing on secret information, especially regarding the movement of troops and security forces, to the Pakistan-based commander,” said NIA.
Earlier on Saturday, NIA raided 15 places in seven Jammu and Kashmir districts in cases related to terrorism. The central probe agency team accompanied by jawans conducted search operations in Pulwama, Awantipora, Anantnag, Srinagar, and Kupwara in the Kashmir region and Poonch in the Jammu region. Police personnel are also involved in this raid.
Officials said that in cases related to terrorist funding and other terrorist activities, raids are being conducted at about 15 places in different districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Over the past few months, the NIA has intensified operations against terrorists and their handlers in Jammu and Kashmir, taking several people into custody. Intelligence agencies have received input that banned terrorist organisations can carry out major incidents in the valley.
