The National Highways Authority of India will start the trials for the two tunnels linking the Dwarka Expressway to the Indira Gandhi International Airport and National Highway 48 on Thursday, May 29. Once the tunnel is open to people, it will solve the traffic-related issue and make the journey comfortable for the commuters.
As quoted by Hindustan Times, a senior NHAI official mentioned, “The traffic trial is likely to start on both tunnels. Commuters will be allowed to use the route from 12 pm to 3 pm initially, and this window will be gradually increased.”
Officials stated that the trial, set to take place between 12 pm and 3 pm, is intended to reduce traffic congestion on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and offer a quicker route for commuters traveling between Gurugram, Dwarka, and the airport.
The Gurugram traffic police issued a traffic advisory which states, “New Tunnel to Airport Now Open via Dwarka Expressway… Skip the traffic and save time! If you’re coming from Jaipur, Sohna, or Southern Peripheral Road, use the new tunnel via Dwarka expressway for a faster, smoother ride to the airport.”
The 5.1-kilometer tunnel has a 3.6-kilometer eight-lane tunnel connecting the expressway to the airport and a two-lane 1.5-kilometer tunnel to NH-48. It belongs to Package 4 of the Rs 9,000-crore, 29-kilometre-long Dwarka Expressway, starting at Mahipalpur in Delhi and finishing at Kherki Daula in Gurugram. Haryana has 18.9 kilometres, and New Delhi has 10.1 kilometres of the total route.
