As part of a new experiment, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has established a pilot project across four toll booths to prevent road accidents by enabling drivers to receive face-washing assistance using lukewarm water from toll workers.

Toll staff at four plazas work to prevent driver fatigue and drowsiness, as these conditions frequently lead to dangerous road accidents during lengthy drives. The toll staff at NHAI locations provide both face-washing services to drivers and seat belt usage information before drivers leave the plazas.

The initiative is currently operational at Bahoripar, Mohtara, Khirwasani, and Udaki toll plazas. Route covering attempts for all-distance drives by drivers result in continuous fatigue that makes them drowsy. Any short period of sleep leads to grave traffic accidents.

Many reported cases of driver fatigue at Kumbh Mela resulted in multiple traffic collisions causing highway accidents. Facial cleanup services and beverage distribution are now available at these toll sites for drivers. The experiment at NHAI seeks to establish operational methods for driver protection and to lessen fatigue-caused road incidents.
