Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma declared on Wednesday that the cost of gas cylinders under the Ujjwala scheme has been reduced and will be offered at Rs 450 starting January 1. Previously, the price of LPG cylinders under the scheme was Rs 500.
Sharma stated that the price reduction is in line with the BJP’s electoral commitment made before the recently held state elections. During the election campaign in Rajasthan, the BJP had included providing Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries with gas cylinders at Rs 450 in all its promises in the resolution letter. The party had promoted all the promises in the announcement letter as a guarantee from Modi.
Bharatiya Janata Party’s Promises in Rajasthan
- Promise to provide gas cylinders to Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries at Rs 450.
- Pledge to offer government jobs to two and a half lakh youths in five years.
- Commitment to increase the amount under the Kisan Samman Nidhi to Rs 12,000.
- Proposal to establish one women’s police station in each district, a women’s desk in every police station, and form Anti-Romeo squads.
- Assurance to provide scooters to meritorious girls who pass the 12th-grade exam.
- Declaration that education from kindergarten to postgraduate level will be free for girls from economically disadvantaged families.
It should be noted that the previous Ashok Gehlot government initiated providing gas cylinders at Rs 500 under the Ujjwala scheme in April 2023. He had promised to offer cheaper gas cylinders to the public on December 22, 2022, a commitment he fulfilled in April 2023. This step was considered a significant move before the state’s legislative assembly elections. However, the BJP, while breaking away from this, pledged to provide cylinders at Rs 450.
