To ensure smooth traffic management on the New Year’s Eve, the Delhi Police has issued advisories. Not only that, but they have also provided information about which roads in Delhi-NCR will remain closed from the evening of New Year’s Eve to the beginning of the New Year, and what arrangements will be in place in case of increased crowds. Delhi Traffic Police will deploy 2,500 police personnel for ensuring proper traffic control and deploy 250 teams to monitor drunk driving and maintain order. Officials mentioned that on New Year’s Eve, additional vigilance will be maintained at locations such as Connaught Place, Lajpat Nagar, Hauz Khas, South Extension, and other crowded areas.
The official stated that in places where there is a likelihood of a large gathering of people, a sufficient number of police personnel will be deployed, and traffic management will be handled accordingly. He mentioned that police officers will carry ‘breathalyzers’ (machines used to determine a person’s level of intoxication) with them so that it can be determined whether an individual has consumed alcohol or not.
Expect a large number of police officers on duty
Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S.S. Yadav has stated that effective traffic management will be implemented for the traffic heading towards Connaught Place after 8 PM on Sunday night. Yadav mentioned that approximately 2,500 traffic personnel will be deployed for proper traffic control, and 250 teams will be assigned to monitor those driving under the influence of alcohol. About 450 motorcycles from the police will also be stationed at various locations. He emphasized that ‘dangerous’ and ‘stunt driving’ will not be tolerated, and if vehicles are found parked incorrectly, they will be towed away.
Possible Crowd Locations
According to the police, hidden cameras will be installed throughout Delhi as part of a special campaign to apprehend violators. The police have issued traffic advisories, stating that on New Year’s Eve, people are likely to gather at restaurants, malls, and other public places, potentially leading to crowded roads. It has been mentioned that there is a possibility of heavy crowds at locations such as Connaught Place, Lajpat Nagar, Central Market, M and N Blocks in Greater Kailash, Nehru Place’s Crown Plaza Hotel, Defence Colony Club, INA Market, South Extension Market, Hauz Khas Village, Qutub Minar, Vegas Mall in Dwarka, Rajouri Garden, Netaji Subhash Place, and Hudson Lane.

Which Roads Will be Affected?
The Traffic Police have stated that from 8 PM on Sunday night until the conclusion of the New Year’s celebrations, vehicles will not be allowed towards Connaught Place from Mandi House, Bengali Market, the northern ascent of Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road, the vicinity of Cheemsford Road (near Munnje Chowk), R.K. Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg intersection, Gol Market GPO, Patel Chowk, K.G. Marg, Feroz Shah Road intersection, Jay Singh Road-Bangla Sahib Lane, and beyond Windsor Place.
He mentioned that after 8 PM on Sunday night, only vehicles with valid passes will be allowed in the ‘Inner,’ ‘Middle,’ and ‘Outer’ circles of Connaught Place, and no other vehicles will be permitted. The police stated that people traveling from South Delhi towards New Delhi Railway Station can take alternative routes such as Ram Manohar Lohia Park Street, Mandir Marg, Rani Jhansi Marg, Jhandewalan, Deshbandhu Gupta Road, GPO, Kali Bari Marg, Mandir Marg, Rani Jhansi Road, Jhandewalan, Deshbandhu Gupta Road, etc. Traffic towards Old Delhi Railway Station will remain unaffected. Travelers are advised to avoid Najafgarh Road (from Dwarka Mode to Jakhira Flyover) and Outer Ring Road (from Janakpuri to Peeragarhi).
