New Delhi: Several senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) including the national chief JP Nadda on Friday launched attacks against the Opposition parties who have announced to boycott the inauguration of the new parliament building on May 28.

The national president of the saffron party accused the Opposition of lacking the committment against the democracy and blaming them to ‘support dynastic politics.’

In a series of tweets, he said, “What connects most parties which are boycotting the inauguration of the new Parliament building? The answer is simple- they are dynasty run political parties, whose monarchic methods are at loggerheads with the principles of republicanism and democracy in our Constitution.”

“Those parties which are boycotting the Parliament’s inauguration lack any commitment to democracy because their sole aim is to perpetuate a select group of dynasties. Such an approach is an insult to the makers of our Constitution. These parties must introspect!,” he added.

“The Nehru-Gandhi dynasty”

Further in his tweets, JP Nadda called out the grand-old party and said, “These dynastic parties, particularly the Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty, are unable to digest a simple fact that the people of India have placed their faith in a man hailing from a humble background. Elitist mindsets of dynasts are preventing them from logical thinking.”

Meanwhile, talking to media, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh appealed the Opposition to rethink their decision of boycott and asked them not to politicise the event.

“No one should politicise this, the new Parliament is a symbol of democracy and the aspiration of all Indians. It is my appeal to all parties who have decided to boycott the inauguration of the Parliament that they should rethink their decision.”

Union Minister of External Affairs Jaishankar Shah said, “The inauguration of the new building of Parliament is a festival of democracy. This should not become an issue of conflict. There is a limit to politicising anything. I think we should all celebrate it together.”

Meanwhile the trend of criticism was also picked up by the former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) leader HD Kumaraswamy who made his attack against the Congress over “showing much respect to President now.”

He said, “Now, they (Congress) are showing a lot of respect and affection for the President. Why did they put a candidate against her? Now they are saying that they (BJP) are insulting Adivasis. All this is only to divert the people’s attention and gain votes from a section of the society.”

In the recently-held Karnataka Assmebly polls where the Congress got a clean sweep, HD Kumaraswamy won from his Channapatna constituency but his son Nikhil lost from Ramnagar to a Congress candidate.

Why Opposition is boycotting new Parliament building inauguration?

In a joint letter on Wednesday, 19 Opposition parties announced to boycott inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building due to PM Modi’s decision to dedicate the infrastructure by himself that “completely sidelines” President Draupadi Murmu, said the signatories.

“When soul of democracy has been sucked out from Parliament, we find no value in new building,” read the joint statement.
