In a significant initiative to improve connectivity between Gurugram and Delhi, Union Minister of State for Planning and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh has directed the exploration of the possibility of a new metro line along the Dwarka Expressway. During a review meeting on Thursday, Singh directed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) to prepare a feasibility report for the metro project. A spokesperson present at the meeting said that officials from the Ministry of Urban Development and DMRC informed that a ridership study will soon be conducted for the proposed route along the Dwarka Expressway.

Singh emphasized that a metro link along the expressway was a “natural progression” of the Airport Metro Line and should converge at Kherki Daula with the proposed RRTS corridor and the Pachgaon metro project.

He also said, “It is crucial that the metro projects should not be delayed as has happened for the Old Gurugram Metro line,” and appealed to the concerned departments to remove road and metro construction-related bottlenecks.

Officials informed the minister that work has begun on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a new metro route to connect the Airport Metro Line to IFFCO Chowk. Singh also directed agencies to expedite the road widening work underway between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, where the line will pass, and to remove obstacles along the proposed metro route.

During the review meeting, Singh reviewed the progress of the RRTS line from Sarai Kale Khan to SNB and suggested extending it to Bawal in Rewari.

Singh also expressed concern that due to the repeated delays in the old Gurugram Metro project, its cost has doubled since it was planned in 2016.
