NDA Nominee And Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan Becomes New Vice President Of India With 452 Votes

Maharashtra Governor and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee CP Radhakrishnan has been elected as the new Vice President of India with a total of 452 votes. He defeated the INDIA bloc candidate B. Sudershan Reddy in a closely watched contest on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. The result marks a key victory for the NDA and a new chapter in Radhakrishnan’s long political career.

According to the Election Commission (EC), a total of 767 votes were polled, out of which 752 were found valid and 15 were invalid. The quota set to elect the winner was 377. The NDA’s candidate secured 452 votes, while the INDIA Bloc nominee got 300 votes.

The Vice Presidential polls witnessed a direct contest between CP Radhakrishnan and B Sudershan Reddy. The voting for the high-stakes election, held under a secret ballot system, began at 10 am and concluded at 5 pm. This was followed by a swift count, which started at 6 pm today. Many parties, including Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Biju Janata Dal (BJD), and Shiromani Akali Dal, however, abstained from voting.

Notably, 96 percent of the polling was recorded by 3 pm. Meanwhile, the results were announced later in the evening. The Vice Presidential election was necessitated after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the post on July 21, 2025, citing health reasons.
