Despite the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) achieving a majority in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, paving the way for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term, the BJP’s poor showing in Maharashtra has emerged as a significant issue ahead of the state elections.
The BJP was able to win just nine seats in the state, a significant drop from the 23 seats it secured in the 2019 election.
According to data from the Election Commission (EC), the NDA did not succeed in most of the constituencies where Prime Minister Modi campaigned. Despite PM Modi holding multiple public meetings and a roadshow in 18 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, the NDA only managed to win three of those seats, losing in the remaining 15.
