In an exclusive interview with News24, Surinder Chowdhury, a prominent leader of the National Conference and deputy CM, emphasized the party’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Chowdhury highlighted the today’s resolution brought forth by the National Conference, which aims to restore the rights that he claims have been unjustly stripped from the region.
“We want the safeguard of our land, jobs, and other essential rights,” Chowdhury stated. He pointed out the apparent double standards of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), noting that while the party advocates for special status for its allies in states like Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, it appears resistant to similar requests from Jammu and Kashmir.

Chowdhury expressed concern over the impact of the revocation of special status on the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Jammu region. “The people here are suffering,” he said. “Since our special status was taken away unilaterally by the central government, we have seen our resources—mining, land, and jobs—being exploited by outsiders.”
He further accused BJP leaders of tacitly supporting the National Conference’s demands, suggesting that there is an underlying feelings on the need for protection of local interests.
