Nation Mourns The Loss Of Manmohan Singh: A Leader, Mentor, And Architect Of Economic Revolution

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday night. His sudden demise has left the nation in mourning, with tributes pouring in from political leaders across the spectrum.

As the news of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s passing was confirmed by AIIMS, Delhi, tributes began pouring in on X, formerly known as Twitter. For many, the loss was not only of a leader but also of a cherished mentor, while others reflected on the transformative era of Singh’s economic revolution that reshaped India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered his day when he used to met Singh. “Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji and I interacted regularly when he was PM and I was the CM of Gujarat. We would have extensive deliberations on various subjects relating to governance. His wisdom and humility were always visible. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the family of Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji, his friends and countless admirers. Om Shanti.” said PM on X.

“India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from humble origins, he rose to become a respected economist. He served in various government positions as well, including as Finance Minister, leaving a strong imprint on our economic policy over the years. His interventions in Parliament were also insightful. As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people’s lives.” he added.

Robert Vadra also remembered about Singh’s economic revolution. “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ji. My deepest condolences for his family and loved ones. Thank you for your service to our Nation. You will always be remembered for your Economic revolution and progressive changes you brought to the country.” he said on X.

Leader of opposition, Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi says he lost a mentor and guide. “Manmohan Singh Ji led India with immense wisdom and integrity. His humility and deep understanding of economics inspired the nation. My heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Kaur and the family. I have lost a mentor and guide. Millions of us who admired him will remember him with the utmost pride.” he said.

on the other hand, Omar Abdullah described Manmohan Singh as an “intellectual giant”, and said he got to learn a lot from the veteran leader.

“Very sorry to hear about the demise of former PM Dr Manmohan Singh. I had many occasions to interact & learn from him. He was truly an intellectual giant, an accomplished economist but above all he was a thorough gentleman, a giant among pygmies,” Omar wrote, adding that India has lost its son, and thanking the former PM for his contributions.

President Droupadi Murmu remarked that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was one of the “exceptional politicians who seamlessly navigated both academia and administration.”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her deep respect for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, stating, “I had the privilege of working closely with him in the Union Cabinet. His intellect and wisdom were undeniable, and the significant financial reforms he introduced in our country are widely recognized. The nation will truly miss his leadership, and I will miss his warmth and affection,” she shared on X.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, stating, “The news of Dr. Manmohan Singh’s passing is profoundly saddening. From his role as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India to serving as Finance Minister and then Prime Minister, he made significant contributions to the governance of our country. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and supporters during this difficult time. May Waheguru grant peace to his soul and provide strength to his loved ones.”

In a post on X, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was “held in high regard by everyone.”
