Nagpur Police: Violence Accused Molested Woman Cop, Attempted To Tear Her Clothes On March 17

Meanwhile, Judicial Magistrate First Class Court (JMFC) has remanded 19 accused in the Nagpur violence case to police custody till March 21.

A woman police officer was targeted by an unruly crowd that attempted to tear her clothes in the Bhaldarpura area during communal violence on March 17. After the matter came to light, the police registered a case against the mob.

The police officer was allegedly molested by the mob. The police said stern action will be taken against those involved in the incident. During the arson and stone-pelting incidents, the woman officer was cornered by the mob. They allegedly molested her and tried to tear her clothes. Soon, other police personnel came to her rescue. 

The mob had also thrashed police personnel on the fateful night. Sources in the police said that a manhunt has been launched to detain those who were involved in the molestation of the cop.

On March 19, the police said fifty individuals have been detained, and a curfew remains in effect for the second consecutive day across ten police district areas in Nagpur following violent clashes that erupted on March 17.

Meanwhile, Judicial Magistrate First Class Court (JMFC) has remanded 19 accused in the Nagpur violence case to police custody till March 21. Yesterday, the Ganeshpeth police produced the accused before the court.

Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, has condemned the recent violence in Nagpur, stating that it is a very serious matter.

“The incident that happened in Nagpur is very serious. Strictest action will be taken. People having the audacity to raise their hands on DCP-level officers and police personnel will not be tolerated at all,” Kadam remarked.
