Nagaland Assembly polls: Out of the total 60 seats in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, voting started on 59 constituencies at 7 am on Monday and end at 4 PM. BJP candidate Kazeto Kinimi has won unopposed from Akuluto, one of the 60 seats, after which voting were conducted on 59 seats. The counting of votes will take place on March 2.

Polling concluded in 59 seats out of 60 seats in Nagaland. A total of 82 per cent voters casted their vote till 5PM (Voting continued after 4PM for voters who reached at voting centre prior to 4 PM)

Polling is underway peacefully in 59 out of 60 seats in Nagaland. Till 3 pm, 72.99 per cent polling was recorded in the state till 3pm.

Voters have started voting to decide the electoral fate of 183 candidates (including four women candidates) contesting the elections in the state. There are a total of 13,17,632 voters in the state, including 6,47,523 male and 6,49,876 female voters. 2291 polling stations have been set up for voting. The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDP party) and the BJP are contesting the elections on a 40:20 seat-sharing basis. Congress has fielded 23 candidates.

In 2018 Assembly polls, Nagaland had registered around 75% voter turnout and 90.57 per cent in 2013.

During the high-stakes election campaign, which concluded on Saturday, all of the contesting parties made a last-ditch effort to sway voters in their favour. During the final leg of the campaign, many top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, canvassed for party candidates.

Voting is underway in 59 of 60 Assembly constituencies, with BJP candidate Kazheto Kinimi declared uncontested winner of the Zunheboto district’s Akuluto constituency after his opponent from the Congress, N Khekashe Sumi, withdrew his nomination on the last day for withdrawal of nominations, February 10.

The BJP is running in alliance with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), its previous alliance partner in the 2018 Assembly elections.

The BJP, on the other hand, will play the role of a junior partner, having agreed to a 20:40 seat-sharing ratio in the state. The Congress and the Naga People’s Front are running for seats in 23 and 22, respectively. The CPI is running for one seat, the NCP for twelve, the RPP for twelve, the JD(U) for seven, the LJP (Ram Vilas) for fifteen, the RPI (Athawale) for nine, the RJD for three, and the Independents for nineteen.
