TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam) president Vijay released his first video message since the deathly stampede in Karur which he declared was the most painful time he had experienced in his life. Vijay said he was “filled only with pain” and went on to explain how much he appreciated the love and affection of the people at the rally.
He also stated that the safety of attendees was the most important factor during the tour. “That’s why, above everything else on this tour, I have placed people’s safety first, with no compromise whatsoever. That thought sits very deep in my heart. So I set aside all political reasons, focused solely on people’s safety, chose appropriate venues for that, and sought permission for those places accordingly,” he said.

Vijay said that his organizers had already written to the police authorities to request permission for the venue of the rally, they had taken all safety precautions, and even so, this spontaneous tragedy occurred. “I’m human too. When so many people had been affected at that moment, how could I just leave that town and come away? If I had gone back there, even citing a reason, it could have led to further tense situations and other untoward incidents,” he said.
Vijay wanted to lay his personal sympathy upon the family members of those who had died and said he was hoping to the swift recovery of all of those admitted to the hospital. Finally, he wanted to thank friends and leaders of various political parties who witnessed the situation and remained with his party.
Vijay asked why an event of this nature only occurred in Karur, particularly when rallies in other districts were uneventful. He said that his team had done nothing wrong, yet FIRs had been lodged against his party officials and supporters, including social media supporters. He requested the Chief Minister not to take action on others but to take action on himself. He would conclude by saying that they would continue in their political journey stronger and braver.
NDA-BJP Delegation in Karur, Demands Supreme Court Investigation for Stampede
An 8-member NDA-BJP delegation visited the site of the September 27 Karur stampede, which resulted in the death of 41 people during a public rally for TVK chief and actor Vijay, on Tuesday. The leaders, including BJP MPs Hema Malini, Anurag Thakur, Aparajita Sarangi, as well as other leaders, met with the injured, families of the deceased, and eyewitnesses, and posed sharp questions about lapses in organization and security, as well as administration.
The delegation demanded that a sitting Supreme Court judge head the investigation, seeking accountability from the Tamil Nadu government and the ruling DMK.
Hema Malini highlighted concerns about poor planning and the choice of venue. “It was a bottleneck. You cannot expect 30,000 people to gather in such a narrow space. Security must be proportionate to crowd strength,” she said, stressing that such tragedies must never be repeated.
The Karur Stampede
The stampede occurred during Vijay’s rally in Karur after a nine-year-old girl disappeared in the massive crowd of more than 50,000 people. People rushed to find the girl that created a commotion. As a result of the dense mass of people, multiple party workers and children fainted causing Vijiay to stop his speech and appeal for calm, asking those to open a path for ambulances. The incident caused 38 deaths, as a result of the stampede.
After the incident, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. Stalin announced that the families of victims would be compensated `10 lakh each, and that the incident would be investigated by a commission of inquiry.
