New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing on the petitions challenging the state government’s decision of scrapping 4% OBC quota for Muslims in Karnataka.
The top court has posted the matter for April 25 after the state government prayed the bench to allow it time to respond. The Basavraj Bommai-led Karanataka govermnment has assured the top court that no fresh appointments or admissions would be made till the next hearing.
The matter pertains to an announcement by the Karantaka’s government who proposed to remove Muslims from the OBC category, subsequently scrapping off the 4% percent reservation.
The Vokkaligas and Lingayats, with eligible Muslims now classified under economically weaker sections get the reservation equally.
