A 37-year-old woman scientist was bitten by her neighbour’s dogs in Mumbai’s Powai area on March 27. The scientist sustained severe injuries and she had to undergo nose reconstruction surgery.
The scientist’s neighbour owns two dogs—a pitbull and a Doberman. The canines were supervised by his driver and maid when the incident occurred. According to reports, the incident took place on March 22 in Jalvayu Vihar.
According to police, the scientist was heading toward her flat which was under renovation. Soon after, her neighbour’s driver and maid came along with dogs in a car. But, the maid lost control of the dogs’ leash, and the two canines attacked the scientist. They bit her on their hands, legs, and face.
The woman scientist was taken to a hospital by another resident. She underwent nose reconstruction surgery. Upon receiving a complaint, the police registered a case against three persons on March 23.
The police launched a probe into the matter. It is being observed in Metro cities that the recurrence of such incidents has become common in residential societies. Similar incidents were reported in the Greater Noida extension when pet dogs attacked the residents.
It is the responsibility of pet parents and the citizens to equally share their responsibility so such incidents can be reduced in the future.
