A 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide on Thursday in Aarey, Goregaon East, by jumping from the 23rd floor of the Oberoi Square complex. Preliminary investigations have revealed that no suicide note was found in her room. Aarey police have registered an accidental death report in the matter. A shocking detail in the incident is that this is not an isolated case in the last six months; this is the fourth such incident that has taken place in the same building complex.
Police have also said that the girl was suffering from depression and undergoing treatment. The deceased lived on the 23rd floor of the Oberoi building, C Wing, Goregaon. She was a Class 11 student, and her father worked in construction.
On Thursday afternoon, she was in her bedroom studying while her mother and grandparents were at home. Her father had gone out for work. At around 3:30 p.m., the girl allegedly jumped from her bedroom window. The family revealed that she had been battling depression for the past few years and was receiving treatment at Ambani Hospital.
The Oberoi complex has gained significant attention due to the growing number of suicide cases among its residents. In the last six months, four such cases have been reported from different buildings in the complex.
Last month, Anant Dwivedi, 22, allegedly died by suicide by jumping from the 45th floor of the Oberoi E-Square building. On May 28, 2025, a 17-year-old schoolgirl also allegedly jumped to her death from the 45th floor of the same complex.
