The Economic Offences Wing of Mumbai Police has registered a case against an IPS officer’s husband in connection with a Rs 25 crore cheating case. The police have registered a case against Purshottam Chavan. Chavan was, earlier, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a monkey-laundering case. Chavan has allegedly collected money from several people in the name of providing government quota flats on discounted rates.
As per reports, a complainant was promised a 3-BHK flat at ’25 Luxury’ project by Chavan at a price of Rs 3.37 crore while the market price was between 7-7.50 crore in 2020. The complainant had transferred Rs 3.37 crore to Chavan. In July 2020, the complainant received a call from Chavan who asked him to visit his IPS wife’s residence.
The complainant reached the residence where Chavan’s associate was present posing as a government official. He was asked to sign ‘agreement for sale’ papers and taken to Thane sub-registrar’s office. He underwent biometric registration. They made him believe that the registration process was genuine.
In March 2021, the complainant was offered photocopies of the registration papers stamped by government officials. Chvan and his accomplices duped at least 19 victims by offering cheaper flats at different locations like Prabhadevi, Parel, Thane, and Dadar.
