A man killed his mother-in-law by setting her on fire in an auto in Maharashtra’s Mumbai. The 56-year-old died due to burn injuries which he sustained during the incident.
According to police, the incident took place in the Mulund area of the economic capital. The police said they have registered a case against the deceased, Krishna Daji Ashtankar.
Ashtankar killed his mother-in-law, Babi Daji Usare, after he suspected that she had encouraged his wife to live separately. Ashtankar’s wife left him six months ago to care for a patient who lives in Borivali. Since then, Ashtankar has been living in his auto.
According to the initial probe, Ashtankar took his mother-in-law to hospital for an eye surgery in his auto. He closed the rear gate and hit her with a heavy object before setting the auto on fire. But, he also sustained severe burn injuries and later succumbed.
A few passersby informed the police and fire tender department. The police rushed to the spot broke the rear gate of the auto, and took them to the hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
