Another incident of rape has occurred in Maharashtra. After incidents in Badlapur and Akola, a 13-year-old girl in Mumbai has fallen victim to this heinous crime. The Vakola police have registered a case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for kidnapping and under the POCSO Act sections 4, 8, and 12. The accused has been identified and arrested. The victim herself identified the accused as he had met her on Instagram.
The accused communicates for a living and works in a hotel in Goregaon in Mumbai. He lured the child to a house in Andheri and assaulted the child. He took her further into Gujarat, where he kept her for 9-10 days at different places and assaulted her a second time. Meanwhile, the family of the victim had lodged a complaint at the police station saying the child was missing, but the girl landed at home and narrated the incident. Police registered a case of rape after the medical examination of the victim and initiated their action. They apprehended the accused through his Instagram account.

Badlapur Sexual Assault Case
On August 20 in Badlapur, district Thane of Maharashtra, two girls were sexually assaulted. As their condition weakened and with the observation of the state of the girls, the families suspected something wrong; the investigation confirmed the sexual assault. The girls accused a person belonging to the school staff. The families reported the matter to the police, but the police registered the case after a delay of 12 hours. This boiled the locals and they protested disrupting the local train services and vandalizing the school.

The locals even reached the railway station and stopped the operations of trains. To manage them properly, the police had to go for a lathi charge. State Cabinet Minister Girish Mahajan reached the spot in the direction of the Chief Minister and tried to pacify the protesters, but they refused to pay any heed to him. Later, as the matter started getting worse, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced an SIT and also declared that the case would be tried in court through a fast-track process. Three police officers, including the police inspector of Badlapur Police Station, a woman, were immediately suspended. Presently, all of them are in police custody.

A week after Badlapur, a school in Akola reveals another case of molesting young girls. Six to seven girls were harassed, and an accused teacher subsequently was arrested. Showing them obscene videos, the accused teacher-turned-tormentor has been identified as Pramod Manohar Sardar. He was to teach at Zilla Parishad school in Kazikhed village. Akola SP Bachchan Singh confirmed the incident. After recording the statements of the victims and their parents, the police registered a case against the teacher under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and arrested him.
