New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Padam Vibhusan (posthumously) to the late Samajwadi Party (SP) patron Mulayam Singh Yadav in Rashtrapati Bhawan today.
Former UP’s Chief Minister and Mulayam Yadav’s son Akhilesh Yadav received the award on behalf of the SP leader.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was a stalwart OBC leader who founded the Samajwadi Party. He served as UP chief minister 3 times. During the Janta party government, he also served as the union Defence minister.
After battling a prolonged illness he died on 22 October 2022 in Medanta Hospital, Gurugram.

He was born in 1939 in Saifai Village of Etawah district, Uttar Pradesh. Before joining politics, Yadav was engaged in the teaching profession. Then after he joined the political war against Congress with Socialist leaders Ram Manohar Lohia and Jai Prakash Narayan. In 1992 he founded Samajwadi Party.
Mulayam Was Seven times a Member of parliament and was elected to Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly 10 times.
He is referred to as Neta Ji and Dharti Putra by his party leaders and workers.
