India’s beach paradise has gained prominence thanks to PM Modi’s recent visit to the “Land of Corals,” Lakshadweep. In a photo that the Indian prime minister posted, he was seen relaxing on a spotless beach, strolling on white sand, and snorkeling. Lakshadweep rose to the 10th most searched word on Google in India shortly after the post went viral.
Quick comparisons between Lakshadweep and the Maldives were made by online users, who suggested that Lakshadweep would be a superior beach destination. Nevertheless, an MP from the Maldives has expressed disapproval of the growing popularity of the Indian island. MP Zahid Rameez of the Maldives commented on a tweet showcasing PM Modi’s visit by saying it is “delusional” to think of competing with them.

What Did Zahid Rameez say about India?
Taking on X, PPM’s Zahid Rameez made a controversial remark saying, “The permanent smell in the rooms will be the biggest downfall” for India. Twitter users were quick to lambast the Maldives politician for his ‘distasteful’ remarks on Lakshadweep. Maldives may be one of the top tourist spots, but PM Modi’s vision for Lakshadweep has propelled UT’s tourism prospects.
Zahid Rameez is a citizen of Maldives. In June 2023, he was begging for Indian citizenship on account of being born in Madras, India.
In January 2024, he is saying Indians are smelly & can’t compete with Maldives.

Zahid Rameez asked for Indian Citizenship
Back in June 2023, Zahid Rameez shared a tweet appealing to the Indian government for Indian citizenship on account of being born in Madras, India.
PM Modi’s focus in Lakshadweep is to uplift the lives of the people through enhanced development. The Central Government plans to make Lakshadweep a major tourist hub like Maldives. PM Modi Govt has infused more than Rs 1,150 crore to enhance Lakshadweep’s infrastructure. Lakshadweep is situated just north of the Maldives, 400 kilometers west of mainland India. For the tourists who wish to explore their adventurer side, Lakshadweep has to be on their list.
