Lucknow: A MP-MLA court on Wednesday acquitted senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan in the 2019 hate speech case.

A magistrate court, in October 2022, convicted and sentenced him 3-year imprisonment in a hate speech case after that he lost his Vidhan Sabha membership.

Azam Khan appealed to the MP-MLA Sessions Court to challenge the order of the MP-MLA Court (Magistrate Court). During the hearing held on Wednesday, the Sessions Court acquitted Azam Khan, setting aside the order of the Magistrate Court.

After Azam was disqualified, the Election Commission hold a by-election for Rampur Sadar’s seat on December 05 to which BJP candidate Akash Saxena won by more than 33 thousand votes.
