Banswara-Dungarpur MP Rajkumar Roat, riding a camel, headed to Parliament from Rajasthan today. However, police halted him before reaching Parliament, leading to a heated exchange. Notably, he appeared in traditional tribal attire and questioned why he couldn’t ride a camel to Parliament when Atal Bihari Vajpayee could ride a bullock cart. He expressed dissatisfaction and stated plans to file a complaint.

Rajkumar Roat contested elections from the Banswara seat in Rajasthan on a regional party BSP ticket, having previously served as an MLA from the Chorasi constituency. Before the Lok Sabha elections, he allied with the Congress. He faced BJP’s Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya in the elections, having switched from Congress to BJP before the polls. Rajkumar Roat defeated the BJP candidate by a margin of 2,47,000 votes. In the elections, Roat received 8,20,831 votes, while Malviya received 5,73,777 votes.

Today marks the second day of the first session of the Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and 261 other members will take oath as MPs and pledge secrecy. In line with this, Rajkumar Roat arrived at Parliament in traditional tribal attire today. However, police halted him beforehand. Despite the police intervention, he disembarked from his camel and walked to enter Parliament on foot. Notably, the Speaker will be elected through a voting process this time, as consensus between the government and opposition couldn’t be reached on the Deputy Speaker’s position.

A Shift Towards BJP's Aggressive Hindutva Amid Opposition's Leadership Crisis

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
