New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar suspended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha for “breach of privilege” after four MPs alleged that the latter used their names in a house panel without their consent.
Leader of the House Piyush Goyal had moved the resolution in the Upper House to disallow Chadha till the privilege committee carries an investigation and submits its findings.
It should be noted that Raghav Chadha is another name in the list of the MPs suspended to attend rest of the Monsoon Session of Parliament 2023.
Congress leader AR Chowdhury
Earlier on Wednesday, the Congress party felt similar turbulance in the Lok Sabha when Leader of Opposition (LoP) Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was suspended. While dismissing the MP for rest of the session, the Lok Sabha chair citied ‘unruly conduct.”
In his speech while discussing no-confidence motion, Chowdhury compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Dhritarashtra form Hindu epic Mahabharata who was a blind king.
AAP Sanjay Singh
Prior to that, another AAP leader was exiled from Rajya Sabha on July 24 for ‘repeatedly violating the directions of the chair’. This came after Vice President Dhankhar gave the AAP MP a strict schooling for protesting in the House despite being asked to let the proceedings go on.
Singh was constantly opposing the Delhi Ordinance Bill that was eventually passed in both the houses. The Bill gives the Centre power to transfer and posting of Bureaucrats in the national capital.
Trinamool leader Derek O’Brien
Apart from Sanjay Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien was also suspended for his ‘unruly bhevaiour’. The Trinmool Congress leader faced the suspesion for disobeying Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar.
