The suspension order came after the Opposition disrupted the proceedings in the House by constantly demaniding Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respond to the Manipur violence that hit the state nearly 3 months ago.
House Warned Sanjay Singh Last Week
Last week, the Rajya Sabha chairperson had warned Sanjay Singh cautioning him for his potential suspension from the House, owing to his protest in the House against the Centre’s Delhi ordinance. The AAP MP opposed the proposed Bill replacing the Delhi Ordinance regarding control over the transfer and posting of bureaucrats in the national capital.
The ordinance was promulgated by the President on May 19, 2023. Targeting the central government over the ordinance, AAP leader Raghav Chadha wrote a letter to Upper House chairperson Dhankar earlier, urging him to not permit the introduction of the Bill and direct the government to withdraw it.
“To undermine Democratic Right”
As reported earlier, Chadha said the ordinance “seeks to undermine the democratic and popularly accountable model of government in Delhi.”
AAP leader also opposed the ordinance accusing the Centre of having intentions of “stripping the Government of NCT of Delhi down to only its elected arm– enjoying the mandate of the people of Delhi, but bereft of the governing apparatus necessary for meeting that mandate.”
