New Delhi: In a reply to the Modi Surname defamation case, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that he has always maintained that he was not guilty, so he had not apologized for the same.
The disqualified MP told in Supreme Court that he is not guilty of an offense and that the conviction is unsustainable and if he had to apologize and compound the offense, he would have done it much earlier.
After the Gujarat High Court refused Rahul’s plea to disqualify the lower court order that held him guilty and sentenced him to 2 years of imprisonment, the congress leader moved Supreme Court seeking nullification of his conviction.
Purnesh Modi, the complainant in his reply before SC termed Rahul Gandhi as ‘arrogant’ as he did not apologize.
Earlier a lower court in Surat on March 23, had found Rahul Gandhi guilty in a criminal defamation case. That led to his disqualification from Lok Sabha.
Following his disqualification, Rahul Gandhi received an eviction notice asking him to vacate the official bungalow allotted to him as an MP representing the Wayanad constituency in Kerala. Gandhi abided by the rules and emptied the place on April 14.
