The police station in Udayagiri, Mysore was attacked by a mob that injured 7 police officers over a controversial social media post.
Hitendra, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), “The man was taken into custody for making such remarks on social media. Some people are very upset and fear that the person might be released very soon.”
The officials further stated, “The crowd turned aggressive and set on the police station, vandalizing cars, wounding several officers and setting parts of the building on fire.”
The local police had made a special team to arrest the riot creators. “The situation at the moment is under control, although it was a little chaotic during the earlier hours,” quoted ADGP Hitendra.
A team has been formed by the local police to arrest the culprits responsible for creating the uproar. “At present, the situation is calm,” ADGP Hitendra said.
Meanwhile, Narasimharaja Congress MLA, Tanveer Sait, said that the person’s post on social media was the reason for the disturbance. “Somebody threw stones, wrecked the vehicles, and broke into a police station. The large number of people meant that the police needed to use tear gas in order to control them. There was a lot of restlessness caused because of a single Facebook post. I instructed that a First Information Report be registered. This was a clear case of cybercrimes. However, there was a gap of five to six hours between the registration of the case and action being taken, which is when the commotion started.”
