The Ministry of External Affairs is collaborating with the police forces of states and Union Territories to implement a solution so that people can get their passports within a few days. On Monday, on the occasion of Passport Seva Diwas, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said that the Ministry has established 440 Passport Seva Kendras in post offices for better services. Additionally, there are 93 Passport Seva Kendras. Currently, there are 533 processing centers and 37 regional passport offices in the country. The Ministry of External Affairs has also included 187 Indian missions abroad in this initiative.

The biggest challenge in getting a passport is police verification, which often takes a lot of time. Many times, applicants are troubled in the name of police verification. In response, the Ministry of External Affairs is working to alleviate this problem.

S. Jaishankar has introduced the ‘m-Passport Police App’ to expedite police verification. This app integrates 9,000 police stations across 25 states and union territories. Additionally, the service system is now linked with DigiLocker for paperless documentation, aiming to simplify the process of police verification.
They further stated that the Ministry of External Affairs provided 165 million passport-related services in 2023. Monthly applications exceeded 1.4 million. They also emphasized that it play a crucial role in citizens’ development, directly impacting the nation’s progress.
