Mumbai: The counter measure “Operation Sindoor” launched by the Indian Army after the Pahalgam terror attack has not only created a stir on the military front, also become a headline in the corporate and entertainment industry. According to the information on the website of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, a race has started for the trademark of the name “Operation Sindoor”. A large industrial groups of the country as well as many names like Mukesh Chetram Agarwal, retired Air Force Group Captain Kamla Singh Oberoi, Delhi lawyer Alok Kothari, Jayaraj T and Uttam have applied to get this trademark. And amid the growing controversy, the country’s big industrial group has withdrawn its application for this name.
Film Industry Joins The Race
The Indian film industry is also showing tremendous interest in this name. Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA), Indian Film and Television Producers Council (IFTPC) and Western India Film Producers Association (WIFPA) have received more than 30 applications for titles related to “Sindoor”. Prominent names among these being “Operation Sindoor”, “Mission Sindoor”, “Sindoor: The Revenge”, “Hindustan Ka Sindoor”, and “Pahalgam: The Terror Attack”. Given the popularity of patriotism and content based on India-Pakistan conflict, filmmakers do not want to leave any stone unturned to capitalise on this subject.
One Name, Many contenders
“Operation Sindoor” is no longer just the name of a military operation, it has turned into a brand, a story and a business opportunity. In the coming times, it will be interesting to see who gets this name – to a business house, or to a filmmaker who is preparing to bring it to the silver screen.
India had launched “Operation Sindoor” on May 7. The operation involved precision strikes on nine identified sites linked to terrorist outfits, specifically targeting camps associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad. Notable locations affected include Masjid Sobhanullah in Ahmed Pur East Bahawalpur, Kotli in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and Muzaffarabad.
Moreover, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a press briefing, had highlighted Pakistan’s role in removing references to the terrorist group The Resistance Front (TRF), which claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terrorist attack, from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) press statement issued on April 25.
