Rising Vigilante Violence in Haryana
Haryana has witnessed a rise in mob violence and lynchings by cow vigilante groups in recent years. Earlier in 2023, two Muslim men from Rajasthan—Nasir and Junaid—were abducted and burned to death in a car in Haryana’s Bhiwani district. The brutal murders caused nationwide outrage, and Monu Manesar, a Bajrang Dal member and cow vigilante leader, along with 20 others, were booked for the crime. A case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against the accused in Malik’s lynching.
