Patna: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti and Trinamool Congress (TMC) president and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday arrived in Patna to participate in the opposition party meeting scheduled tomorrow.
18 opposition parties meet
According to Janta Dal United (JDU) leader Lalan Singh 18 political parties would participate in the meeting to discuss the strategy to challenge the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The JD(U) chief said Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti have also extended their support for the opposition meeting to be held on June 23.
Nitish, Kejriwal, Mamata meet
Nitish Kumar has travelled to several states, including Delhi, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Karnataka, to unite like-minded parties against the ruling BJP at the Centre. Nitish had met Congress leaders for the first time on April 12, following which Rahul Gandhi described the meeting as a historic step towards opposition unity.
Nitish Kumar has also met Arvind Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee besides Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik and others. Nitish had approached Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar and Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray in May.
