In Meghalaya, a woman was assaulted by four men who accused her of having an extramarital affair. A video of the incident went viral, prompting police to file a case against the perpetrators.

The incident occurred in the Lower Teksagre area of Dadenggre in the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya. The video clip of the incident shows a man beating the woman with a stick and dragging her on the ground by pulling her hair.

In the video clip, other men can be seen hitting the woman with sticks and kicking her while she lies on the ground in public. Onlookers from the village, including women, elderly men, and children, stood by watching the brutal assault unfold.

Following the incident, the police have arrested five individuals after registering a case under the relevant sections. The accused claimed that the woman was involved in an extramarital affair.

Meanwhile, Sutnga Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla, who chairs the Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment, has requested a report from the police regarding the incident. She also announced plans to instruct the Superintendent of Police across all 12 districts of Meghalaya to be vigilant against any form of crime targeting women.
