In the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, police have confirmed that Sonam Raghuvanshi and her lover have confessed to their relationship and the crime. However, the state’s Special Investigation Team, which is investigating the honeymoon murder, have dismissed the victim’s family’s demand for a narco test on the woman, saying they have all the evidence needed. Superintendent of Police (East Khasi Hills) Vivek Syiem also confirmed the denial of the Narco test. According to them, the results of a narco-analysis are not admissible in court.
Narco Test
“They have already admitted to the crime. We have done the reconstruction of the crime scene. They have shown us. We have got the evidence in place of… I don’t see the reason why we should perform (naro analysis test) at this stage,” Syiem said. “Narco test is done usually when there’s no evidence at all, and Narco analysis is actually banned by the Supreme Court,” he added.
Motive Of Crime
Police stated that the specific motive for the murder was not explicitly “money.” The officer indicated They wanted to get rid of Raja because he was coming in the way of their relationship and business plans.
“They wanted something, somebody out, I mean Raja, out of this whole scene, because they had a relationship and because of the customs where they had to agree between the parents and all that… So they thought… better get rid of this person (Raja),” the officer added.
The Meghalaya police are now trying to question Lokendra Tomar, who owns an infrastructure company and a flat in Indore. Sonam Raghuvanshi had stayed at this flat for some time before being arrested in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. The police are investigating why a bag that Sonam had left behind at the flat was removed. The bag reportedly contained a country-made pistol, her mobile phone, Raja’s jewellery, and ₹5 lakh in cash. Police suspect that the removal of the bag was an attempt to hide or destroy evidence. As a result, two men have been accused of tampering with evidence.
Police sources said that they have not yet been able to recover the jewellery that Sonam Raghuvanshi brought back from Meghalaya. Property dealer Silome James, security guard Balveer, and Lokendra Tomar, the owner of the apartment where Sonam was hiding, are likely to be produced in a Shillong court on Thursday. Additionally, both Silome James and Balveer will be taken to Shillong for further questioning.
