The chargesheet, filed before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Sohra Sub-Division Court, details the conspiracy behind and the execution of the murder of 29-year-old Raja.

As the East Khasi Hills police in Meghalaya filed the 790-page chargesheet in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, shocking details have emerged, revealing that Raja Raghuvanshi was killed in the presence of his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi. The charge sheet also said that the Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi was killed after a criminal conspiracy hatched by Raj Kushwaha, with whom she was in a relationship.

According to an Indian Express report, the chargesheet, filed before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Sohra Sub-Division Court, details the conspiracy behind and the execution of the murder of 29-year-old Raja.

The police said their Special Investigation Team (SIT) found that Sonam was in a relationship with Raj. Raj reportedly planned with her and hired three men to kill Raja. The police added that the murder was carried out by Aakash Singh Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Aanand Kurmi in front of Sonam Raghuvanshi.

Raja was first struck by Vishal Singh Chauhan with a machete, locally called a “dao.” Vishal was one of three hitmen hired for the crime by Sonam and her accomplice. The chargesheet says Sonam was present during the murder and saw her husband being attacked. When Raja began to bleed and scream, she fled the scene but returned after he had died from the blows. A second machete was found in the same gorge where Raja’s body was dumped, along with a white shirt believed to belong to Akash Rajput, worn during the murder.

The police have also collected evidence in the form of the recovered murder weapon, bloody clothing, CCTV footage of the couple, and testimonies of multiple people, including a guide who saw the accused together.

The police also said that they recovered Sonam’s mangalsutra and a toe ring from the hotel where they had left their bags, which they said raised suspicions.

About The Case

The case first came to light as a report of 29-year-old Raja and 24-year-old Sonam going missing in Meghalaya. But what started as a search for a “missing couple” from Indore soon unfolded into a story of shocking betrayal.

The couple tied the knot on May 11 and travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. On May 23, they went missing shortly after leaving a homestay in Nongriat village, about 20 km from the spot where Raja’s body was discovered on June 2.

On June 8, Sonam was found in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur and surrendered later at Nandganj police station. Sonam reportedly confessed to killing her husband on June 11.
