Remember the incident of a challan issued decades ago for the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s vehicle? IPS Kiran Bedi, the first woman IPS officer in India garnered praise for her honesty and unbiasedness in that matter. In a recent incident that took place on September 19, Thursday, Bihar traffic police issued challans for several vehicles including those owned by MLAs. The operation took place under the command of SP Traffic Aparajit Lohan.
MLA vehicles also booked for challan
This activity happened in a no-parking zone outside the RJD office in Patna where multiple vehicles including two-wheelers and four-wheelers were parked. The traffic police of Patna, under the direction of SP Traffic Aparajit Lohan, inspected areas of the no-parking zone and thereafter issued challans for more than a dozen vehicles including those belonging to the MLAs who are supposedly from the RJD.

SP Aparajit Lohan said that around 15-20 vehicles were parked in a no-parking zone for which challans have been issued as per the law and lawful action would be taken. Among those vehicles, a few belong to commoners while others belong to the members of the legislative assembly.
No govt pressure, obvious duty
The officer clarified that the action wasn’t taken due to any direction from the government but it is an obvious activity by the traffic police. He mentioned that the action has been taken under the MV Act implemented in 2014-15 and the Municipal Act which was enacted even before.

SP Lohan said that in the inspection that the traffic police did a day before on Wednesday, on Station Chowk, it was found that the owners or runners of public transport such as e-rickshaws or auto-rickshaws go by the guidelines but those who own private vehicles on their own, don’t make efforts to walk even 20-30 metres and take their cars beyond the permitted area.
He has appealed people of Patna to follow traffic rules and if a challan is issued, go by the law.
