The Indian Foreign Service (IFS) member Nidhi Tewari received an appointment as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Private Secretary after the Personnel Ministry issued an official statement on Sunday. The Department of Personnel & Training through an official order approved this appointment after the Cabinet’s Appointments Committee issued its sanction.

Nidhi Tewari received official approval from the ACC order issued by the DoPT to serve as Private Secretary to the PM in Level 12 of the pay matrix starting from an immediate effect with the temporary term until further orders or until the earlier termination.
Who Is Nidhi Tewari?
A 2014-batch IFS officer, Nidhi Tewari hails from the Mahmoorganj area of Varanasi. Following her 96th place in the 2013 Civil Services Examination she took the role of Assistant Commissioner in Varanasi before moving to the Indian Foreign Service.
Salary And Benefits
Future monthly compensation for Tewari as Deputy Secretary in the PMO will be Rs 1,44,200 at the Level-14 pay matrix position. Her monthly earnings as Deputy Secretary total approximately 2 lakh rupees with the inclusion of dearness and house rent allowances and travel benefits, as reported by Jagaran.
Although Tewari serves under the Prime Minister’s Office she occupies the position of Deputy Secretary following her recent promotion on January 6th, 2023.
Initially, in 2022, Tewari became an Under Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office before rising to Deputy Secretary on January 6, 2023. As part of the ‘Foreign and Security’ division, she works under direct supervision from Ajit Doval who serves as the National Security Advisor.
Contribution To The Ministry Of External Affairs
Tewari shifted from her Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division work at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to join the PMO. Through her expertise in international relations she made valuable contributions to how India formed its domestic and foreign security strategies.
Connection To Varanasi
The city of Varanasi has been Tewari’s home base for an extensive period of time while also serving as Prime Minister Modi’s parliamentary constituency. The political life of Mahmoorganj has been essential to the development of the area since Prime Minister Modi won his first Lok Sabha election in 2014.
