From small village to big dream

Today, we will talk about Divya Tanwar, who hails from a small village in Haryana. She proved that a lack of resources and amenities cannot hinder one’s dreams, and she turned her dreams into reality through hard work and grit.

Struggle shaped her strength

Divya Tanwar is a native of Haryana’s Nimbi village in Mahendragarh district. Divya lost her father in 2011, after which her mother took on the responsibility of running the household. Divya’s mother, Babita Tanwar, worked in fields and stitched clothes to support the family’s livelihood.

Focused on education

Despite financial struggles, Divya continued her studies. She attended a government school and a Navodaya school. She completed her graduation in the science stream. Later, she started preparing for the UPSC examination.

UPSC cleared at 21

Divya did not attend any coaching institute and relied on mock tests for her preparation. She focused on understanding the syllabus thoroughly and revising consistently. In 2021, she cleared the UPSC examination in her first attempt and secured an AIR 438 rank. She was only 21 years old at the time and became the youngest IPS officer. She scored 751 marks in the written examination and 179 marks in the interview.

From IPS to IAS goal

She aspired to become an IAS officer and continued pursuing her dream. She appeared again in the UPSC 2022 examination and significantly improved her rank, securing AIR 105.

In her second attempt, Divya scored 843 marks in the written examination and 160 marks in the interview. She fulfilled her dream by becoming an IAS officer and is currently serving in the Manipur cadre.
