The arrest of suspects Muskan and Sahil came as they failed to ascertain the weight of the drum in which they packed Saurabh’s chopped body after filling it with cement. They had decided to get rid of the drum after returning from their Himachal Pradesh vacation. On March 17, they returned, and the very next day they called labourers to shift the drum from their house.
When the process of shifting the drum was underway, the labourers mistakenly opened the drum, after which a foul smell filled the air, which eventually raised suspicions around the area. Due to fear, Muskan returned to her parents home and tried to frame Saurabh’s family member for his murder. But when his family grilled her over suspicion, it was revealed that she killed her with the help of Sahil.
Later, Muskaan’s parents took her to the police station, where Muskaan explained her and Sahil’s involvement in the crime. They were arrested and are now in judicial custody. Saurabh Rajput, an ex-Merchant Navy officer, was killed by his wife Muskaan and her lover Sahil upon Saurabh’s return to India to celebrate the birth of their daughter, according to the investigations.
The Murder
Muskaan and Sahil killed Saurabh on March 3 by stabbing him to death. They chopped Saurabh up into 15 pieces, hid the body in a blue plastic drum, and covered it with wet cement. Muskaan and Sahil left for a two-week vacation and planned to dispose of the body upon return. Saurabh, a Merchant Navy officer, married Muskaan in 2016, and they have a six-year-old daughter.
Muskaan’s relationship with Saurabh’s family had been strained from the start, and they continued living separately in a rented house. Around 2019, Saurabh found out about his wife’s affair with Sahil, and he had planned to pursue a divorce, but he reconsidered because of his daughter’s future. Saurabh worked in London, and Muskaan remained in Meerut.
