IMD Weather Update: Several states have been reeling from intense heat over the past few days. However, some are experiencing respite due to rain. As we enter May, the weather is likely to undergo significant changes, with rain in different regions. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (speed 40 to 50 Km/h) over Northeast India for the next five days.
Heavy Rain Warning
A warning against thundersquall (wind speed reaching 50-70 kmph) has been issued for the residents of Assam and Meghalaya on 29th April. Additionally, several northeast states will see intense downpours today. The affected areas include Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, and Meghalaya.

East And Central India
– Light rain, thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds: East India, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh (from April 29- May 2.
– Hailstorm, Heavy Rain: Odisha (April 29 – May 2)
South Peninsular India
– Light showers, thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds ( gusting to 50 kmp): Karnataka, Coastal Andhra
Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal (next 7 days)
– Thundersquall (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph): North Interior Karnataka (April 29- May 2)
– Isolated hailstorm: North Interior Karnataka (April 30 and May 1)
Northwest India
Due to a fresh and active Western Disturbance likely to impact Northwest India from 2nd May, 2025, significant changes are expected.
– Light rainfall, strong winds: Western Himalayan region and plains of northwest India (April 30- May 4)
– Duststorm: East Uttar Pradesh (April 29 and 30), Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi (May 1) and Rajasthan (May 1 and 2)
