American fast-food conglomerate McDonald’s obtains its main ingredients from multiple Indian regions where it buys potato supplies from Gujarat for French fries and aloo patties and obtains Arabica coffee beans from Chikmagalur in Karnataka together with lettuce from Lahaul and Spiti and Nashik and Ooty and tomatoes from Western India. The company aims to incorporate well-known agricultural items from Telangana into its supply base.
Sources informed TOI that Telangana’s distinguished spices could enter McDonald’s procurement system after McDonald’s Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski met with Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to discuss the company’s Global Capability Centre (GCC) plans.
The organization will share information regarding their future purchasing operations in the Telangana region. The Telangana government official speaking to TOI indicated that the state should supply turmeric and chillies and sesame seeds as a main source to McDonald’s. CM Revanth Reddy presented a passionate case for Telangana state to serve as the main source during his meeting.
The turmeric plants from Nizamabad district’s Armoor area produce long-fingered turmeric that has high curcumin levels and currently seeks recognition as a Geographical Indication (GI). Two specific chilli breeds with local fame exist in Telangana: Warangal Chapata along with Teja chilli which originates from Khammam district.
The Warangal Chapata chilli successfully obtained a GI tag approval because of its unique combination of red coloring which results from high oleoresin content but presents minimal heat level. McDonald’s agricultural procurement would drive substantial financial growth to Telangana’s agricultural sector alongside raising farming profits.
