A 50-year-old marriage broker was killed and two of his sons were left with life-threatening injuries as the result of a late night stabbing that occurred in Valachil, within the limits of Mangaluru Rural Police on Thursday. The assailant is related to the victim and was arrested.
The police say that the victim, Suleman (50), a resident of Vamanjoor, had arranged a marriage between the assailant, Mustafa (30) and a woman, Shaheenaz, approximately eight months ago. The marriage ended poorly, and about two months ago Shaheenaz returned to her parents’ home. This led to problems between Mustafa and Suleman.
Police say that on Wednesday night, Mustafa made an abusive call to Suleman. Suleman, along with his sons Riyab and Siyab, went to the house of Mustafa in Valachil to make a statement. While the two sons waited outside of the house, Suleman had a brief conversation with Mustafa, and Suleman returned as the conversation had gone badly.
As the three initiated to leave, Mustafa ran out of the house, shouting threats up at them, and stabbed Suleman in the neck, killing him immediately. Mustafa then went on to attack both sons, stabbing Siyab in the chest and Riyab in the forearm, and he fled, according to police.
The locals rushed the injured individuals to a nearby hospital at around 11:00 PM, where Suleman was declared dead on arrival. His sons are currently receiving treatment for serious injuries.
Mangaluru Rural Police registered a case against Mustafa under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including culpable homicide, attempt to murder and assault. Mustafa was arrested soon after, and additional investigations are ongoing.
